Deborah grew up in Arroyo Seco in South Monterey County – spending as much time outside as inside – before
heading north to the University of Puget Sound to study Economics, then east to Georgetown to pursue
an MBA. Over the next three decades, Deborah worked in agricultural management and finance while raising
two children and snatching early morning hours to write freelance for the San Francisco Chronicle.
She took her first ever art class online during the pandemic, and now spends an inexcusable number of
hours outside with her palette and easel.
Deborah’s paintings result from the push and pull and interplay of what and how she observes with where
the paint, itself, is taking the image. She works in oil en plein aire, and treasures the hours that pass in the
blink of an eye as I try to translate a slice or a sense of the fullness around me onto paper or canvas.
